Chilcompton away and after defeat against Meadow, Kirky rang the changes. Dawson – dropped. Pickford – dropped. Savage – dropped. In came Rob Tracey to play his first 1st team game in 2 years and Oggy returned at right back to make his first start of the season. With a shake about in positions, an unfamiliar left sided partnership of Boucher and Lyons took to the field. Joe, Andy and Fran started in centre mid, Rob partnered Gary at the back with Dec staying right wing and Nick going up top. Stan remained in goal.
Chew took the lead after 5 minutes with a route 1 clearance from Kirk which found Nick racing through on goal. The keeper came out and Nick coolly lobbed it over the keeper and into the net. Disaster struck after as Dec went down with a pulled hamstring and had to be replaced. On came Danny Clarke.
Dan had the chance to put Chew 2-0 up when through on goal but tamely shot into the keeper when it looked harder to miss, or alternatively role the ball into the middle to Nick who had an open goal.
Chew conceded a penalty before half time when Rob was outpaced and fouled the Chilly striker in the box. The number 9 converted the spot kick to bring the scores level.
After half time Chilly went 2-1 up when the Chilly striker beat the tackles from the Chew boys and shot from outside the area past the helpless Kirk and into the net.
Chew didn’t really have many chances after that. A Nick shot was blocked by the keeper and Haydon couldn’t readjust to put in the rebound. Dawson, on in the left wing position, almost set up Nick late on but he couldn’t connect with the cross.
If it wasn’t for Kirk the score line would have been a lot worse for Chew as he made save after save to keep Chew in it. One particular one was where he dived across the box to save, Gary cleared off the line and then Kirky was back to smother the third attempt. Great performance Stan.
So another loss for Chew, 2 defeats in a row, has been a setback for the Chew boys and a cup game the week after would now be must win to ensure Chews season doesn’t start falling apart
